Mizeria (Cucumber Salad)

Mizeria (Cucumber Salad)

Mizeria (Cucumber Salad) is an easy traditional Polish salad which works wonderfully with fish.  The dill offers an aromatic flavor. Serve with salmon fillets from the BBQ and some boiled vegetables for a light summer dish.

We always have a massive influx of cucumbers from the garden in July and August and to be honest, most of the time me and the kids just love to slice them up and eat them as a snack.  However, if there really is too many this salad is a great way to use them up.  These are some of the other ways I like to use them up:

  • Cucumber Riata
  • Pickled cucumbers
  • Sesame cucumber salad
  • Cucumber sandwiches (great for the kids :-))
  • Cucumber Salsa

I’ll try to add some recipes for these ideas asap.

Mizeria (Cucumber Salad)
  • 1 large cucumber
  • 1 large pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp. 30ml natural yoghurt
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 small handful dill
  • 1 pinch pepper
  1. Finely slice the cucumber into rings and lay out flat on a plate and sprinkle over salt to draw out some of the moisture
  2. Squeeze the excess moisture from the cucumbers and drain
  3. Mix together the yoghurt and lemon juice them combine with the cucumber

  4. Finely chop the dill
  5. Mix dill and pepper into the cucumber mixture
  6. Serve chilled
