This is the best way i have found to make fish Pie.

Why chose a crust or potato pie when you can have the best of both worlds?  This delicious fish pie has a kick as big as you desire and is a truly amazing twist of a classic dish.  Ramp up the heat if you wish with some Habanero slices as well as the pickled Jalapenos.

A delicious jalapeno fish pie the with delicious sliced potatoes as well as a crust base.  A dish the whole family will love.

For The Crust
  • 1 1/2  cups 225g plain flour
  • 1/2 cup 110g butter
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • A few drops of water may be required
Fish Pie Ingredients
  • 4 large potatoes
  • 3-4 large cod breasts any white fish will do
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp corn startch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 pinch garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper
  • 1 pinch dried chilli flakes
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 1 cup sharp cheese cheddar or jack work well
  • 1-2 tbsp pickled jalapenos chopped finely adjust according to desired spice
  • 2 tbsp olive oil for brushing the pie
  • 1 tsp finely grated Parmesan for topping
  1. Sieve the flour into a large bowl
  2. Cut the butter up into the flour keeping it as cool as possible
  3. Add the salt and rub the mixture between your fingers until it resembles breadcrumbs
  4. Squeeze the mixture together adding a couple of drips of water if required to form a dough texture
  5. Kneed the dough for a few minutes then place in the freezer while you prepare the potatoes
  6. Pre-heat the oven to 190C/375F
  7. Wash the potatoes and place them in some salted water to par-boil for 15 minutes
  8. When they are cooking, remove the dough from the freezer and shape it with a lightly floured rolling pin to line the bottom of your chosen pie dish
  9. Place the pie crust in the dish and cook in the pre-heated oven for 20 minutes
  10. Place a sauce pan over a medium heat and add the butter
  11. Place the fish in the pan and cover for 8 minutes
  12. Turn the fish over then add the salt, garlic powder, pepper, chilli flakes, and cinnamon into the pan to mix in the butter and fish juices
  13. Remove the fish from the pan and set aside while you make the sauce
  14. Turn the heat to low
  15. Mix the flour with some water to form a paste to avoid a lumpy sauce
  16. Add the flour mixture to the sauce pan and whisk with the other ingredients
  17. Add the milk and cheese and continue to whisk for 5 minutes until the sauce is think
  18. Add the chopped jalapeno's and return the fish to the mixture, breaking it up as you add it
  19. Combine and set aside
  20. Drain the potatoes and slice them to approx 5mm think
  21. Place the fish mixture over the crust then arrange the sliced potatoes over the top
  22. Brush the top of the pie with olive oil then sprinkle the Parmesan on top
  23. Cook in the oven for a further 20 minutes at a temperature of 210C/410F
  24. Serve immediately with your favourite vegetables
